The beginning of 2010 launched St Paul's into an 11 year ministry plan called Vision 2020. The vision to years end 2020 is:
10 Christian communities of 100 core members by 2010
The vision is both quantitative and qualitative.
Quantitatively - as a church we wish for more people to come and experience the joy of being known by, and treasuring Jesus. Our deliberate strategy will be to plant congregations rather than consistently building bigger buildings to accommodate growth congregations. Although we will need to build buildings we want to ensure that our primary investment will be in people for ministry. We therefore seek to maximise the use of our facilities.
After 11 years of proclaiming the gospel, committed prayerfulness, great personal sacrifice and hard work, and if God so delights, St Paul’s will be a church with 10 Christian communities of more than 100 people each.
Qualitatively – we want people who ‘burn’ for God’s glory! Our vision is more than just a vision to see people won for Jesus, it’s a vision to see people transformed by Jesus.
It is always tempting to focus on the numbers, in this case the 10 Christian communities of 100 and spend our resources to just ‘win’ people for Jesus. St Paul’s Vision flows out of a deep conviction that the real work of achieving the vision will be done at the very basic level of spurring each other on to embrace the Lordship of Christ.
When we Treasure Jesus Together our church we become a community of love. As a community of love we’ll be driven out to spread Jesus and people will be drawn in amongst us. To that end we want all of the St Paul’s family to be pursuing core membership.
As we pursue Vision 2020 as a church, we seek to resource 5 main strategies across the whole church:
...a community of men, women, boys and girls who have been redeemed by God the Father through the finished work of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, on the Cross. Through faith in him we have been forgiven, cleansed of guilt and adopted into the family of God’s much-loved people. He has set us free from our ungodly past so that we might now represent him to the dying world around us—loving and serving others as Christ has loved and served us.
